In mid-November SBA Music attended the internationally renowned Face The Music conference held in Melbourne. The summit was two days crammed with 50 different talks by a host of music industry professionals from Australia and beyond our shores, the hub being at the stellar State Library Victoria and RMIT campus.
With an array of talks to attend, we were spoilt for choice! SBA Music supports local indie artists, so it was natural for us to attend talks on the eco-system of independent labels in Australia and New Zealand. Alex White (USA), of the Next Big Sound, gave a captivating talk on his research into analytics behind the Billboard chart determining key early indicators of artists 'breaking' into the industry, essentially reverse engineering the chart. In the hyper paced 21st century, digital systems are the only means of keeping up. Ditto Music provided an insightful talk on the behind the scenes of digital music distribution. Singapore and Australia signed a new partnership agreement earlier this year, opening up more opportunity for music businesses and artists to extend their presence in the respective territories. A panel of music pro's from Singapore hosted an in-depth talk on opportunities that await there and gave tips on how to approach this new market.
Face The Music was an enlightening conference and an important point of contact with the wider music community of which SBA Music is a part.
