Allan Smithy, the solo project of musician Matt Amery who chose a pseudonym as a way of starting with a clean slate for his music writing, creates a sound closely tied to the inner suburbs of Sydney. You can't help the flood of nostalgia that comes about when thinking of growing up in Sydney neighbourhoods as the quintessential Australiana suburban folk rock sound washes over you.
Allan Smithy released his debut album I See A Palm Tree in late 2016. The poignant single Air was written after the Darling Street, Rozelle fire in 2014. Living around the corner and heavily invloved in the Rozelle community, Smithy created the single in response to the tragedy, channelling the emotions and perspective of those who had lost family and friends.
