Ready to feel old!? 2014 marks the 25th Anniversary of the Beastie Boys second album 'Paul's Boutique'! It was a landmark release in 1989 for hip hop lovers the world over, producing the hits 'Shake Your Rump' and 'Hey Ladies'. To this day, 'Paul's Boutique' is listed as one of the greatest albums of all time by Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, Time Magazine, Q and Spin.
The album artwork depicts the corner of Ludlow and Rivington Streets in New York City, now a sandwich shop called Wolfnights. The owner has agreed to a commemorative mural, created by artist Danielle Mastrion. It was completed today and can be viewed at Bowery Boogie. It's a bittersweet testament for the Beastie Boys, following the loss of founding member Adam "MCA" Yauch to cancer in 2012. The rapper also has a Brooklyn Heights park named after him, the subject of a fundraiser now under way (more here).
