December Launching Pad - Electric Empire

After hitting the stage at Glastonbury, London’s Royal Albert Hall plus shows in Japan and France, it’s hard to believe that local music lovers are only just wrapping their ears around Australia’s Electric Empire! Seriously, these guys have even played Kazakhstan! The independent act rival soul favourites from the 60s and 70s, with a vintage sound that brims with classic funk. However it would be unjust to label Electric Empire soul revivalists as their latest EP ‘Changin’ proves. The four piece may nod towards the past but dish up an altogether fresh and unique perspective on soul music.

Produced by John Castle (The Cat Empire, The Bamboos, Washington), the ‘Changin’ EP follows their self-funded debut album released back in 2010. This time round Electric Empire are broadening their scope, “We’re opening our minds to mixing a bit of a fresher, wider sound. It’s 2012 and we’re making a record with all that history, but created with a modern feel.”

“We feel as though we’re now at that next level,” notes guitarist Dennis Dowlut. “We’ve done exactly what we wanted to do with this EP and it’s really injected within us a new confidence in what we’re doing.”
