Sydney band Underlights have announced the release of a self-titled EP, available digitally at the end of March. A collaboration between school friends Jack Friels(guitar & lead vocals), Darius Navidzadeh (guitar & vocals), Johnny Took (bass) and Tom O’Dell (Drums), the band have been slowly been working their way up the local ladder.

Underlights’ sound is a guitar inspired melting pot of folk, blues and pop blending Beatles-esque psychedelia with contemporary indie rock. With influences ranging from UKheroes Oasisand The Stone Roses, to the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and The Black Angels, it’s clear to see that Underlights wear their inspirations on their sleeve. Whilst the band’s influences are clear, they still manage to keep a unique approach and maintain a classic Australian aesthetic, which is rare in the current musical landscape and separates them from the next crop of up and coming acts.

Playing extensively throughout Sydney and Melbourne, the band have supported the likes of The Jezabels, You Am I, The Underground Lovers, The Howling BellsandThe Mess Hall. More recently the first single off their forthcoming self titled debut EP, “Now That You’re in Love”, was instantly picked up by triple J and added to high rotation. This led them to be featured as an Unearthed‘Artist Of The Week’, and the band were asked to play the Sydney leg of this year’s Big Day Out festival. Expect to hear a lot from Underlights in 2012!

RICHARD KINGSMILL – TRIPLE J“This is killer. Great work”
