In January 1920, alcohol became illegal in the U.S (better known as the prohibition era) The ‘20s are often referred to as the “Jazz Age” and it was also around this time that underground bars known as ‘speakeasies’ started popping up across the U.S. (more prominently in Chicago and New York City) It was in these venues where many aspiring jazz musicians got their break (many of whom are now legends)
Speakeasy Sounds showcases the biggest names from this era, from Al Jolson, Louis Armstrong, Bessie Smith, Fats Waller, Cab Calloway and Glenn Miller to name a few.
So time to don your best tux or flapper dress, as Speakeasy Sounds will transport you back to the Jazz Age!
