3 Rules Of In-Store Background Music

1. Music is as important as the store decor and service.

With an unfathomable amount of online stores these days, consumers are well acquainted with the variety of products on offer before even seeing it physically on the store shelf. For this reason, in-store atmospherics (especially music) need careful consideration to provide customers with an engaging sensory experience.

2. Define your brand

Avoid selecting a music combination that is 'good for everybody' but 'loved by nobody'. Consider exactly who you target demographic is, how you would like to stand out in your market and what you want to achieve in store e.g. is it high turnover of purchases? Do you want to create a relaxed atmosphere to support extended customer dwell time? Being more discerning with music means that you will make a stronger connection with your customers.

3. Speak to the experts

SBA Music's team of specialists can help you to achieve your music branding goals. As one of Australia's leading background music suppliers, we provide a range of  solutions for your background music needs including consultation, curation, music systems, in-store messaging and public performance licensing. With over 20 years of experience working with brands, we will be able to provide you with a streamlined service and a music solution that distinguishes you from the rest.

Launching Pad: All Our Exes Live In Texas

Fans of home grown indie folk shouldn't sleep on 'When We Fall', the debut album from All Our Exes Live In Texas. The Sydney-based foursome (Elana Stone, Katie Wighton, Hannah Crofts and Georgia Mooney) craft intimate heartbreakers, fireside ballads and twee pop gems! Their self-titled EP was critically praised, and led to national tours alongside Passenger (UK), Kate Miller-Heidke, Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats (USA), Tiny Ruins (NZ), and Megan Washington.

Emeli Sandé's Debut Australian Showcase

SBA Music was invited to Emeli Sandé's debut Australian showcase at Leadbelly in Newtown. Given the success of her 2012 album, Long Live The Angels, it is surprising that she has never before visited our shores to share her talent!

It was a short but sweet set of her newest releases and a couple of well loved hits. Starting with the emotionally driven Hurts, Emeli communicated something sublime, raising the arm hair of all who listened. Next, she lifted the energy level in her performance of the infectious new single Highs & Lows. In Read All About It (Part III), she delivered a strong message which is especially relevant in the time we find ourselves. The whole audience was singing along to her last song, her hit Next To Me

It was only a small appetiser of what Emeli Sandé has to offer and it certainly left us wanting more.

Have a listen to Emeli Sandé's lastest single Highs & Lows...

Launching Pad: Cameron Avery

Perth-bred/NY based artist, Cameron Avery, has a well established foot in the music industry with his past experience as a member of such bands as Tame Impala, Pond and The Growl. However, he is new to the scene as a solo artist with the release of his debut album Ripe Dreams, Pipe Dreams

Inspired by the old records he loved —Johnny Hartman, Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Sarah Vaughan, Etta James, Avery says of the upcoming self-produced album, “I just started saying ‘yes’ to things while making the album. I figured: I’m in my mid 20’s, I play in a band, I live in Los Angeles—I’m ripe to dream. But the pipe dream, the underlying theme of the album, if you really listen, is that all I really want is to have someone in my life and to be in love.”

The Wasted On Fidelity (the first single to be lifted off the album) video, directed by Joy Collective provides a bold, cinematic demonstration of the single’s themes - exploring the ebbing debauched haze following a failed relationship.
