Launching Pad: Parcels

Hailing from the sun-drenched shores of Byron Bay, Berlin based electronic five-piece Parcels return with highly anticipated single 'Overnight'. Collaborating with none other than the planet’s most gifted robots Daft Punk, the single was written together before being produced by Daft Punk in the spring of 2017 at a secret location in Paris, France.

Parcels are Jules Crommelin, Patrick Hetherington, Noah Hill, Anatole Serret and Louie Swain. The 19 year olds first caught the eye of Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel Homem Christo of Daft Punk at a Paris club in 2016. Following their chart-topping partnership with The Weeknd, and previous collaborations with major artists including Nile RodgersPharrell Williams, and Kanye West, Daft Punk have now elected to add a brand new name to a stellar list. ‘Overnight’ is a timeless statement of bighearted mentorship and of youthful inspiration, an effortless cut of summer bliss that shines with innate musicianship and unfurls its refined groove into the mellowest of nights.

Perfecting Your In-Store Music Experience

perfecting in store music.jpg

In the first instalment of Perfecting Your In-Store Music we looked at how it is important to balance volume in your store to provide your customers with the optimal background music to encourage their shopping. In this update we'll be taking a look at the music's energy level and tempo.

A song's speed or tempo is determined by it's BPM (beats per minute) as well as it's 'feel'. SBA Music is able to filter your playlist selection by BPM in a schedule because optimising your BPM throughout the day can assist in driving your sales. For example, a café might have uptempo or energetic music play during the morning rush for two reasons; firstly, to support foot traffic moving through the store and, secondly, to encourage a speedy work pace for the barista preparing the coffees. The feel of music adjusts our perception of time. An uptempo songs that uses an emphatic pulse throughout makes us perceive that time is moving quickly. Inversely, if you want to keep customers in your store for longer more sparse and relaxing music would be appropriate. For instance, lounge music or cool era jazz would be well suited to a book store where you would want customers to take their time with their purchases, browsing through the selection of books.

Meg Mac Showcase

SBA Music was invited to Meg Mac's showcase at Leadbelly in Newtown earlier this month. She did a short set of about 45 minutes sharing songs off her long awaited debut album Low Blows; highlights included the songs Maybe It's My First Time and the single also titled Low Blows. The crowd listened listened closely as Meg Mac shared anecdotes of her song writing process and then delivered her performance with full gusto, from a place of authenticity. Her powerful and unique vocal timbre truly shone out as she sang to the backing of an excellent band. Meg Mac had the house rocking!
